Waypoint Church

About

We are a life-giving church in the Shenandoah Valley, centered on Jesus and dedicated to helping people navigate their faith journey.

Our Mission

01

God

We glorify God and lead others to do so through developing transformational relationships.

02

Community

We create unity by pouring into one another with selfless service and unconditional love.

03

Purpose

We empower people to discover and boldly pursue their God-given purpose.

Our Vision

To lead people to Jesus and empower them to boldly navigate a lifelong journey of faith and commitment to God.

Our Values

01

God First

We passionately and proactively seek God first in everything we do. It's not just a priority; it's our starting point.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Matthew 22:35-37

02

Family Matters

The church isn’t like a family, it is a family. We belong to one another and carry each other's burdens.

"For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother." Matthew 12:46-50

03

Love Like Jesus

Jesus loves unconditionally, and so do we. No exceptions, no fine print. Just radical, sacrificial love.

"This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:38-39

04

Spiritual Gains

We train in truth to grow in purpose. We don't settle for stagnation; we pursue spiritual maturity daily.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness..." Galatians 5:22-23

05

Radical Generosity

We give big because He gave it all. We live with open hands, trusting that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

"Take your everyday, ordinary life... and place it before God as an offering." Romans 12:1

OUR FOUNDATION

What We Believe

Our beliefs are the foundation of our faith. We hold to these truths as essential to living a life that honors God.

Holy Bible

The Holy Bible, and only the Bible, is the authoritative Word of God. It alone is the final authority in determining all doctrinal truths. In its original writing, it is inspired, infallible and inerrant. The Bible is not a truth amongst other truths, but the perfect truth of God. There are five key scriptural doctrines to which we hold: Scripture alone, Faith alone, Grace alone, Christ alone and Glory to God alone (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 5:1-11, 9:31-32, 16:25-26; Ephesians 2:4-5; Galatians 4:4-5, John 14:6).

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is manifested through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and sanctify the church, demonstrate the validity of the resurrection, and confirm the power of the Gospel. These gifts may occur in various combinations. All believers are commanded to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures. We believe that all New Testament gifts of the Holy Spirit are operative in the church today. (Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11, 12 :4-8; Ephesians 4:16; I Timothy 4:14; II Timothy 1:6-7; I Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-40; I Peter 4:10).

Trinity

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. These three are coequal and co-eternal. God is infinite in holiness and perfect. God is all powerful and all knowing. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. (I John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11; Mark 1:9-11; John 14, 17:1-8; I Corinthians 8:6; Colossians 1:15).

The Church

The church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of Jesus' Great Commission. Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the church as a member of the body of believers. There is a spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the head of the church. We believe that the church is God’s only plan for changing the earth. (Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22, 5:23; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11-23).

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity, and the head of the church. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He is the only man ever to have lived a sinless life. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and performed miracles. Jesus died on the cross and thus honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and through His substitutionary death on the cross, made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory. Salvation can only be attained through faith in Jesus alone. (John 1:1,14, 14:6; I Timothy 2:5, 3:16; Isaiah 9:6, 53; Philippians 2:5-11).

Marriage

Marriage is defined in the Bible as a covenant, a sacred bond between one man, born a man (husband), and one woman, born a woman (wife), instituted by and publicly entered into before God for a lifetime. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God's image. The marriage relationship models the way God relates to His people. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. He has the God-given responsibility to provide for, protect, and to lead his family. A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She is fully equal to her husband, as they are both made in the image of God, but has the God mandated responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper (Genesis 1:27; Ephesians 5:22-33; I Timothy 5:8; I Peter 3:1-7).

Salvation

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ; His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or of any human efforts (Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16, 3:8; Titus 3:5; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 9:22).

Repentance

Repentance is the commitment to turn away from sin in every area of our lives and to follow Christ, which allows us to receive His redemption and to be regenerated by The Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:21, 3:19; I John 1:9).

Regeneration

For anyone to know God, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential (John 6:44, 65; Titus 3:5).

Redemption

Man was created good and upright, but by voluntary transgression he fell; his only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God (Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21).

Sanctification

Sanctification is the ongoing process of yielding to God’s Word and His Spirit in order to develop Christ's character in us. It is through the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life (I Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; II Corinthians 3:18, 6:14-18; Romans 8:29, 12:1-2; Hebrews 2:11).

Resurrection

Jesus Christ was physically resurrected from the dead in a glorified body three days after His death on the cross. In addition, both the saved and the lost will be resurrected; they that are saved to the resurrection of life and they that are lost to the resurrection of eternal damnation (Luke 24:16, 36, 39; John 2:19-21, 20:26-28, 21:4; Acts 24:15; I Corinthians 15:42, 44; II Corinthian 1:9; Philippians 1:21-23, 3:21).

Heaven

Heaven is the eternal dwelling place for all believers (Matthew 5:3, 12, 20, 6:20, 19:21, 25:34; John 17:24; II Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 11:16; I Peter 1:4; Revelation 21:1-5).

Hell

After living one life on earth, the unbelievers will be judged by God and sent to Hell where they will eternally face separation from God and torment (Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:9-11, 20:12-15, 21:8).

Virgin Birth

Jesus Christ was conceived by God the Father, through the Holy Spirit, in the virgin Mary; therefore, He is the Son of God (Matthew 1:18, 25; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:27-35).

Sacraments

Water Baptism: Following faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the new convert is commanded by the Word of God to be baptized in water in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16; Acts 8:12, 36-38; 10:47-48).

The Lord's Supper: A unique time of communion in the presence of God when the elements of bread and grape juice (the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ) are taken in remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross (Matthew 26:26-29; I Corinthians 10:16, 11:23-25).

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, the third person in the trinity, and fully divine. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. He teaches and reminds the believer He provides witness of and exalts Jesus Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He cultivates Christian character, comforts, and distributes spiritual gifts that are used by believers to serve God through His church. He indwells and seals all believers until the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the guarantee that God will bring the believer into the fullness of redemption. Believers can be baptized in the Holy Spirit as subsequent experiences after receiving the Holy Spirit. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service (John 14:26, 16:7-14; Genesis 1:2, Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11-16; Mark 16:17; Luke 12:12, 24:49; Acts 1:5-8, 2:1-39, 4:31, 8:14-17, 10:38-47, 11:15-17, 19:1-6; I Corinthians 2:12-14, 3:16, 12:3-11; Galatians 4:6, 5:22-23; Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30; Joel 2:28-29).

Children

From the moment of conception children are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to demonstrate to their children God's pattern for marriage. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and to lead them, through a consistent lifestyle example and loving discipline, to make choices based on biblical truth. Children are to honor and obey their parents (Psalm 127:3-5; Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:1-4).

Evangelism

In addition to bringing people to Christ we also want to be sent out with Christ. Our mission is therefore not reserved for just a selected few, but a privileged responsibility we all share toward the lost in our city, region and world. Our role is to love, pray and declare. God’s role is to equip us for those tasks, provide opportunities and awaken hearts to the gospel (John 20:21; Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:19-20).

Humanity

Humanity is the special creation of God, made male and female in His own image. The gift of gender is part of the goodness of God's creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God and fell from his original innocence whereby his posterity inherited a sinful nature and an environment inclined toward sin. Only the grace of God can redeem man out of his position of eternal separation and death and bring him into His holy fellowship, righteousness, and eternal life, through Jesus Christ. The sacredness of human life is evident in that God created man in His own image, and that Christ died for all men; therefore, every person of every race, from the point of conception, possesses full dignity and is worthy of life, respect, equality, and Christian love (Genesis 1:27, 2:7-22, 3; John 3:16; Romans 2:11; 3:10-23, 5:6-21, 6:6-10, 7:14-25; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 Timothy 2:4, Mark 12:31; Titus 2:11; Hebrews 5:8-9, I Corinthians 15:22; Ephesians 2:8, John 14:6).

The Father

God the Father is the first person in the trinity. He reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men and women (Genesis 1-2, John 1:12-13; Romans 8:14-15; Deuteronomy 32:6; Isaiah 64:8; Matthew 23:9).

Sexuality

God has commanded that no sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage. It is God's unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for husband and wife in marriage the framework for intimate companionship and the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards. We believe that all forms sexual sin, including but not limited to, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, pedophilia, fornication and adultery are violations of God’s gift of sex. We believe that God forbids any altering of one’s gender by surgery or appearance (Genesis 2:24-25, 19:5, 26:8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; I Corinthians 5:1, 6:9, 7:1-5; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4, Ephesians 5:31-33, Proverbs 5:15-19).

God's Will for Provision

It is the Father's will for believers to become whole, healthy and successful in all areas of life. But because of the fall, many may not receive the full benefits of God’s will while on Earth. That fact, though, should never prevent all believers from seeking the full benefits of Christ’s provision in order to better serve others.

  • Spiritual (John 3:3-11; II Corinthians 5:17-21; Romans 10:9-10)
  • Mental and Emotional (II Timothy 1:7, 2:11; Philippians 4:7-8; Romans 12:2; Isaiah 26:3).
  • Physical (Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 8:17; I Peter 2:24).
  • Financial (Joshua 1:8; Malachi 3:10-11; Luke 6:38; II Corinthians 9:6-10; Deuteronomy 28:1-14; Psalm 34:10, 84:11; Philippians 4:19).

The Second Coming

Jesus Christ will physically and visibly return to earth for the second time to establish His Kingdom. This will occur at a date undisclosed by the Scriptures (Matthew 24:30, 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; I Thessalonians 4:15-17; II Thessalonians 1:7-8, 2:1-3; Revelation 1:7).
From Humble Beginnings

Our Story

Waypoint Church began in late 2024 with a simple act of faith. Matt Cooper and Casey Western sensed God’s call to create a place where people could encounter His life-changing love. Alongside their wives, Kristi and Carissa, they spent time praying, dreaming, and envisioning what this church could become.

At the same time, Kyle and SheRae Hunter were discerning a call to plant a life-giving church in Winchester. When their paths aligned, it became clear that God was bringing these stories together for a shared mission. The Hunters joined the founders, laying the groundwork for His glory as the lead pastors of Waypoint Church.

Waypoint Church was officially established in 2025, built on faith and obedience—to glorify God, serve the community, and lead people to discover their God-given purpose. What began as a spark of faith continues to grow into a movement of hope in Winchester and throughout the Shenandoah Valley.
